- George Ellis, describing the initiation of the TM program in Folsom State Prison: "So I asked Pat [Corum] to bring me ten of the leaders in the prison. He brought me members of the Nazi Aryan-brotherhood, the Black Guerillas, Mexican Mafia, and members of a Muslim religious group. They all learned TM and when we met the first day to meditate in a group, no one would close their eyes. So one of our TM teachers, Randolph Carter, had to stand in the back of the room before they would close their eyes. By the second meeting it was no longer necessary; the TM meetings became a sanctuary of safety and peace regardless of color or affiliation. After this first course, five hundred inmates wanted to learn TM." (page 518 in A Symphony of Silence: An Enlightened Vision, 2nd ed.)
